I went to "Customer Service" for help, got the same story, the woman did see the optical woman and ask her to help but she replied that she was on break and would return in "fifteen or twenty minutes".
I was really mad, went outside and watched the optical woman light up a cigarette and I drove off. I did email Sams Customer Service and got a bunch of excuses in reply.

With optical there are special restrictions by state law being a health profession, however, they should have a method in place to respond to these situations. With the pharmacy department, I know they have the pharmacist break time marked on the store signage, I'm not sure about optical in that regard. However, hourly associates cannot legally perform any work while on a meal break per company policy to ensure compliance with federal and state wage and hour laws. |
| 2. Written by Joe, on 14-09-2009 20:57 There should be someone manning the department at all times. If that means a manager has to cover when an employee is on break so be it. |
| 3. Written by I know Sam too, on 08-09-2009 09:36 The optical associate didn't help you because they aren't allowed to while they're on their unpaid lunch break. It's considered working off the clock and an associate can be reprimanded for it up to and including termination depending on their current level of "coachings". During a payed 15 minuted break an associate can and should help a member. Some are so scared to help someone while they are not on the clock they just refuse to help. But store policy keeps them scared. Me, well I work at Sam's Club also. What i realize is that can do pretty much what I *** well please to help a member while on my lunch break. I ma not be able to jump on a register because I'm locked out or may not be able to jump on a forklift because should I cause an accident while not on the clock I can be fired but I can and will point aq member in the right direction, load their cart, help them with a carry out and there's nothing Sam's Club can do about it. They aren't paying me for that half hour so have no right to tell me I can't help. It's my time. I want our member's to have a good experience in my club and if that means I do a simple little favor for you then I'm happy to do it. You're a paying member. Demand some assistance. I'm a member by default and that's what I do. |
| 4. Written by I Know Sam, on 26-06-2009 22:59 Hey I know how you feel Ms " Sams Club complaint" It's not fair. I have worked for Sams and yes more than enough times fellow employees dont care, They are not willing to use their walkie or page a manager to retieve the item. They would rather tell you no to your face, and that you are not their only member. Listen Hun, you pay for your membership...right? Sams Club Corp. has not prob taking your money.. so next time demand a manager.. and if they were like my GManager.. a slacker.... I wish you luck...be persistant and know that people who work for sams get no incentives to make your shopping easier. They honestly see you as another number.. I'm sorry... They are all about their quota for new memberships...and total imcome dollars. I wish you Luck! Call corporate and report the club you visited! you can find the number on google search Bentonville ARK, sams club! Dont renew your membership unless they work it out! |
