I received a membership renewal letter in the mail with different options on how to get it done. I figured I would do it online just like I've done in the past. Normally we have the Advantage membership. The past few months we tried the Advantage Plus. Finally got talked into trying it since we were being harassed about it at the register every time we checked out. They said if we didn't like it at renewal we could just drop the upgrade. Well the upgrade didn't do a darn thing for us, so we decided not to keep it. Anyway, I log into the site to renew and it wants me to pay $105 because there is no way to *** the Plus membership. Nice! so for the convenience of renewing online you get forced into paying extra for membership you don't want. No way I was paying that.

Then I called the customer service line. They said they could renew on the phone with me and down grade to the original membership. I give them my name and they say they can't upgrade with me. My husband's name is primary on the account, so they need to speak to him only. I am listed on the account as well, I am his wife and I'm trying to make a payment. I find this hilarious. That's like stopping someone from making a deposit into your checking account!

Now, I can't wait to pop into one of their stores in person to speak to a manager and I'm going to tell them to take the card and shove it. Oh and I'll make sure my husband is with me when I do it!!!

Bye Sams Club, it's time for us to try Costco!

I just got an auto withdrawal for $45 on my bank account for a membership to Sams Club renewal I did not authorize. Not sure what happened here, but NOT COOL! Anyone else have this happen?

received a postcard offering upgrade to Plus with the same old benfits, but this one added 5% off members mark products, which made it worthwhile. after completing the upgrade (in-store only, the card said) i didnt get the discount, had to spend 15 minute at the counter while they figured out where to look for the item on their list.

assured it was fixed, i emailed sams for the list and got an auto response saying "problem solved, call placed". call to whom, i wonder? not ME. then i see online the 5% is only good til jan 31, 2017.

the card did not say that. sams screws me again.

I am having the exact same problem! Well, I know now what to do, thanks

Was scammed into upgrading to a plus membership at the register. Found out they dont pay you your full benefits it you dont renew.

Filing complaint with art of e.g. general's office as they are ripping consumers off.

I too was suckered into upgrading and now find there is no option to go back to the standard membership on the renewal website. I am annoyed with this deliberate attempt to force me to pay for something I don't want and will be trying the other club for a while.

good luck with Costco they try the same sales measures as all warehouse clubs do. Just remember they are offering you a value at a greater expense at first.

if it doesnt work go to the membership desk and ask for a full refund and whats done is done.

do not blame your own stupidity on people who are trying to offer you a great deal...if its worth it. that is why the upgraded membership and all memberships are 100% refundable.

Shut up

If you are not the primary you are not the boss. You may not make decisions one way or the other for the account.

You may pay it but you can't change anything. You are going to get the same thing everywhere else. I love how people think Costco is some great company that will right all the wrongs of the world.

They are going to have pretty much all the same policies as Sams. I just wish I could see your face when you realize it.

Reading these comments from "customer service employees" I first think these comments are not really from Sam's employees and that they would never display that strong customer contempt. But then I think of how poor the customer service is at Sam's.

The buyers are asleep and don't really offer very much and the employees don't really help out like they do at a good store like Publix Supermarket.

My membership will expire in 30 days and I'm not motivated to renew. Been paying the membership since 1993 every year early, but they have slipped.

we are trying to right the wrong. in more ways than you you know right now. There is a little club in 6526 oh that is Jamestown NY which is over 6 years accident free...spends time with its members and making sure every member is taken care of...look em up...prestigious

You are 100% right. Most CS employees have that attitude.

Maybe they don't get paid enough. Publix is completely different standard, no way we can compare the two!!

I know this post is old but just for the benefit of those wanting to go to Costco over this issue they have the same rules. I'm more upset with Sam's because they don't allow you to downgrade your membership online.

I'm glad that don't allow just anyone to make changes to my account. Yes, it can be frustrating but we live in a world that makes such measures necessary.

Guest

I work at Membership and when I create an account I ask who wants to become the Primary because of the policies in place such as removing, updating, and downgrading if necessary. You're an entitled *** who is just upset.

You could have went to the service desk with your husband the next time and downgrade...even could get a refund for the amount you paid into Plus as long as the date isn't up. No....you want to complain because you're so freaking important.

you lady, YOU, are the reason why I can hate my job at times. :(

The problem is when we specifically specify that we both can make changes and because of the world we live in we later find on that the man is the only one that can make changes to the account.

Wow horrible comment and yes Im sure it was the (economy) for your job situation. Its called customer service ***.

What a *** company.

Let me help you with this one. Let's pretend that you have dial-up internet.

One of your teenaged children wants turbo DSL in order to play online games. He calls the ISP. Even though the internet service is in your name, your child has the same last name and lives at the same address as you. The ISP decides it is ok to honor your child's request, and starts billing you for turbo DSL ($20 more a month) plus a $6 monthly rental fee for the router/modem.

You are outraged. When you speak to your ISP, they say that they did "wrong," because your child told them that he lives at the house and is the primary user of the ISP services. Get it yet? Since the membership is in your husband's name, and you are the courtesy household add-on, you do not have the right to change the membership.

The only people that can change the membership are the membership holder (your husband) and Sam's Club (which they aren't willing to part with the free money you gave them for the privelege of shopping at Sam's).

However, I do not think you will give up your membership. For the few years I spent working at Sam's Club as a supervisor (bad economy, eh?), those who threaten to leave Sam's Club on principle or to go to Costco's continue to shop at Sam's Club.

Why? Because this world is loaded with self-appointed, entitled people who whine at everything that does not suit them at the moment.
