I just called the number on my Sam's Club membership billing statement today and had no issues cancelling our membership. It was due 30 days ago and just decided not to pay in hopes it would just close the account.

That didn't happen, the account was not closed, they charged me a renewal fee this month. Since we've only used it 2-3 times (live 60 minutes to the nearest club) in the past 4 YEARS I wanted to cancel it. So, I called the number, answered questions from an automated system, and got a confirmation number for the cancellation, and requested a letter stating that the account has been closed. The automated system said I will receive the cancelation letter in about 10 days.

That was it. I'll let you know the final outcome.
