We went to Sam's on August 6, 2010. We discussed a Sam's Club going in.

We wanted to decide later and we proceeded to shop. We purchased several items and then was told at the checkout we could not pay by check and could not use our Visa cards. We were told they would accept our check if we joined the club, but we had not made that decision. Since this is the only payments we had available we left the store without any purchases.

When we entered there was no mention of these policies either posted or at the desk where we discussed the club membership. I checked your web page, nothing there. We spent a couple of hours considering prices and products.

I think this sort of treatment of prospective customers will help many decide about future purchasing.

I use my Visa debit card all the time at Sam's with no problems. I can understand why they wouldn't take checks.

I would never accept a check from anybody either. There are just to many people running around out there with full check books and empty bank accounts.

August 6th was actually the first day of a Sam's Club open house, where prospective members could enter the store and freely purchase items without a membership. However, members who purchase items with checks are saved into the system and you cannot purchase items with checks without a valid membership.

Sam's Club does not accept Visa credit cards from anyone, including members.

If, however, it is a Visa debit card you are running as credit it will work.

The employees who work at the Member Services desk cannot be expected to foresee every problem you may run into, especially when the place is swarming with hundreds of customers that do not have a membership and are virtually lost.

Are you *** or something, everyone knows that at wholesalers like Sam's Club, Costco and Big Lot's you need a membership to make a purchase. They sell you things in bulk for cheaper prices but you have to pay a membership. I bet you just wanted the perks without paying for the membership and when you did not get your way you whined and threw a temper tantrum.
