I always buy Hormel Bacon Bits at Sam's Club. Now they have replaced Hormel with their brand .
Yuck ! It is like opening a bag of chopped up uncooked bacon!! Strange smell too. I was hesitating to buy it because it was not Hormel, but I needed it for a lot of my dietary requirements.
So I bought it , and I was shopping in another city and it would be more trouble to return it . I decided that I would try to use it , so I cooked it in about 3 batches and browned it more. It did crisp up nicely and I was able to drain off a lot of grease. After it cooled, I put it in a ziplock bag so it is ready to use.
Cooking it more improved it a lot.
Yes, this was some extra work , but at least I can use it now . I would never buy it again, and will just buy fresh bacon and cook it up myself .
